ANSWERS:

1. Which course should I choose if I'm a beginner ?

The best start is the EFA course for it teaches students basic design concepts with emphasis on correct techniques and foundation skills.
However the CP is also very popular and suitable for beginners who want to learn more all round skills. Apart from EFA, CP includes two other basic courses BB- Wedding Bouquet Designs & FG- Floral Gift Designs.

2.

What if I want to learn flower arrangement as a hobby, which course should I take?

Please refer to the "Course Advancement Chart" under " COURSES" , the courses colored in green and red are all suitable.

3. If I want to equip myself and prepare to open or work in a flower shop in the future, which courses should I start with?
You may take CP, then FM. Then refer to Course Advancement Chart for courses colored in green and red to be more fully trained.
4.

I have learned a bit of flower arrangement before, should I start from the very basic still?

It depends on whether you find that your foundation is strong enough. If not, start with EFA. If yes, then you can choose any courses you are interested.

5.

What are the tuition fees and do they include material fees?
What other things I need to buy other than flowers?

You may request for a detailed tuition fee list by clicking "Fee Inquiry".
The tuition and material fee are all clearly listed. As for the other things necessary for the lessons, it is different course from course. You may contact us for enquiring particular course.

6.

Can I get a certificate/diploma after finishing the courses?

The application of cert./dip. is optional. You may apply for it after completing the whole course. If you have missed any lessons, you have to arrange for the make up classes first.

7.

What is I.A.F. ? And is the certificate acceptable all over the world?

You may click "ABOUT US- HKAFA" to understand more. Since the I.A.F. was established in 1990, it is a famous floral organization renowned all over most part of the world. Students find the certificates (co-signed by the HKAFA) mostly welcomed & acceptable by employers. Many overseas students travel to H.K. to take the courses from countries far away. We have students from the U.S.A. , Europe , Japan , Singapore , Mainland China , Malaysia , Indonesia , Korea , Taiwan , Canada , Australia & New Zealand, etc. That's why our international class is so popular.

8.

Can I get a job with the certificate after finishing the courses?

Although most employers know HKAFA & IAF, it's better if you get more certificates from different subjects of courses. They welcomed applicants with more all round skills and higher levels of training. Therefore, intermediate and advanced Cert./Dip. are much better. Then you can easily find a good job with good pay.
The Academy can recommend students who have completed all round training to employers in the floristry field.

9. What happens if I missed some of the classes I enrolled?

When you enroll for the classes, we'll give you a sheet of "Rules & Regulations" which states the guidelines for make up classes arrangements. (You can click "Register on line" to take a look on it. If you want to take a break for holiday or for some other reasons, you can apply for absence from the Academy and we'll take record of your missed classes and arrange make ups for you.

10.

I work at shift hours, how can I fit into the regular schedules of the classes?
Can I finish the courses still?

We have students from airlines or who are nurses, they just arrange the classes with their working schedules with our staff. You just attend the class schedules when you do not have to work until you finish the course. The Academy will keep clear record of your attendance. Most of the courses are run two or three schedules a day, you may fit in one of the schedules on the same design. For example, if you have to work in the morning on that day, you may attend the afternoon or evening session. Please do inform the our staff upon enrolment so that we can give the best recommendations.

11.

My job requires me to go on business trips rather frequently, and my employer gives me only short notice, how can I apply for absence within 5 working days as stated in the Rules & Regulations? Can I still join the classes ?

In this case, we recommend students to confirm the classes when they are sure that they can really attend the class. Usually, we can add our flower order within a shorter period of notice, but we cannot cancel our order placed. So you can master your attendance by confirming with the Academy 2 or 3 days before the class.

12.

Since I can enjoy greater discount if I enroll 2 or more courses together, can I start the pre-enrolled courses later?

You can start any pre-enrolled courses later, without any time limit.
13.

If I have learned elementary flower arrangement else where, can I join the intermediate levels right the way?

You need to show your notes or photos to the tutor and she'll decide whether you need to make up some classes on concepts you haven't learned. You may start taking the intermediate levels without waiting to complete the make ups, but you have to agree to make them up.

14.

Can I take the FM directly if I want to open a flower shop?

Since in the course FM, the practical floral assignments are to be completed at home, you'll have difficulty if you do not have basic flower arrangement knowledge. As for the understanding of the lectures, students perform better if they have basics. We do recommend students to take the CP Course first for it trains you for the basic techniques needed for daily flower shop operation.
However, if you still want to take the FM first, you can still try and understand the management part first.

15.

Can I just attend the courses without buying and practicing on the materials?

Since practicing and actually trying on the designs are very important, students must do the practical part of the lesson. In order to match with the theme of the lessons, students are to purchase unified material sets from the Academy. However, if sometimes students need to leave the Academy earlier after looking at the demonstration of the tutor, they can bring back the materials and practice at home.

16.

Most of the classes are run once or twice a week, can I finish it in a shorter period of time?

Actually most of the courses last for 2 to 4 months. If you need to speed it up, you may discuss with us whether you can attend one more schedule. Or we may arrange private tuition for you. You can learn a few lessons a day. Students need to pay double original tuition fee on private tuitions.

17.

Since some of the courses needs basic flower arrangement knowledge before enrolling, what if I still want to take those courses?

You can still try to take them, but since you've missed the foundations, you may have difficulties in understanding and performance.

18.

What is the difference between FR, DFA and EFA? Are they all western styles?

EFA covers the basic and some other design concepts of European Flower Arrangement. It prepares for students to take specialized courses like FR, DFA, etc. FR & DFA are also European Styles, but FR focuses on unique French Style designs which are different from the Classic European Style. The DFA focuses on unique techniques and trend styles from Holland and Germany .
